The chair of Monaghan IFA says vegan products are being deliberately misleading by being called steak, burgers or sausages.
Frank Brady says people are often in a rush to buy groceries and can sometimes erroneously pick up a vegan product instead of meat.
The Irish Farmers Association says words like steak and burgers should only be connected with meat products.
This week the European Parliament voted that plant-based foods can continue to be called burgers or sausages, but terms like "yogurt-style" can't be used for non-dairy products.
Frank Brady told Shannonside Northern Sound that vegan products should stop "riding on the back" of meat products.
