Today marks the centenary of the death of East Cavan TD and President of the Dáil, Arthur Griffith.
Griffith was chairman of the delegation that signed the Anglo-Irish Agreement in 1921 at Downing St. in London.
An informal remembrance ceremony marking the day took place at Leinster House Lawn earlier today.
Tanaiste Leo Varadkar says Arthur Griffith was a visionary who knew that Ireland had the potential to prosper on its own after achieving independence from Britain.
Cavan's Sean McKiernan told the Joe Finnegan Show that Griffith's election was a turning point in Irish politics.
