43 CCTV cameras across 17 different locations throughout Monaghan Town looks set for approval.
The news was confirmed by Super Intendent Pat O'Connell during this week's sitting of the County Monaghan Joint Policing Committee.
According to Super Intendent O'Connell, there is hope that the Garda Commissioner will pass the final stages either by the end of January or early February.
He added that a tender will then be provided for a local group to begin works and that the implementation of the CCTV cameras will depend on "tender competition" and who is successful which will be decided by the local authority.
Meanwhile, Cllr Brian McKenna who is chairperson of the local Joint Policing Committee (JPC) announced his relief, by "thanking God" that the committee was "finally over its last hurdle" in relation to securing CCTV cameras for Monaghan Town.
