A political analyst is predicting that Cavan-Monaghan Fianna Fáil TD Niamh Smyth is in for a ministerial role in the 34th Dáil. The full line-up of junior ministers in this government is expected to be revealed at about 2 o'clock today.
As a returning TD for the third time and Chair of the media committee which looked into the RTÉ payments scandal last year, Deputy Smyth, will be considered to be a TD with enough experience to handle a junior ministerial role at this stage in her career.
Her position will be strengthened by calls from many corners for more women around the cabinet table. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show earlier, Brian Mahon a Journalist from Longford, said Niamh Smyth could be in line for promotion based on either "substance or spin" (listen below):
