Munterconnaght native Jean Tighe who has been missing in Portugal for three years has been placed on a missing persons register this morning.
It follows calls from her family for the past 12 months to have the County Cavan woman registered so that the investigation into her disappearance could progress.
During yesterday's Cavan County Council meeting, Cllr Shane P O'Reilly called on the local authority to use any power it had to highlight the case to the Gardai and have it highlighted in the Oireachtas.
Jean Tighe went missing in Lisbon in July 2020 and speaking to Northern Sound previously, her family expressed their frustration by the lack of progress by Portuguese police investigating her disappearance up until now.
Speaking to Northern Sound News, Councillor Shane P O'Reilly said that the family have been met with a stone wall with nowhere to go to get answers surrounding Jean's disappearance.
The Mullagh native added that all members of Cavan County Council have made contact with Portuguese authorities in the past to highlight this missing person's case.
