A Cavan Town GP says the influx in cases her practice is seeing has nothing to do with cross-border travel.

Dr Dara Hume, a GP at the Drumalee Family Practice in Cavan Town, says most of the confirmed cases in her practice have been the result of local gatherings where people haven't abided by the public health guidelines.

Dr Hume has also reminded people in the region of the need to self-isolate if they have been in contact with a confirmed case.

She added that GPs cannot refer a close contact for a coronavirus test, and can only refer those who develop symptoms.
