One local man plans on travelling on a motor bike from Cavan, to Nordkapp in Norway, which is the most northerly point on mainland Europe, in aid of three local charities.
Jonny Doyle plans on doing the 10,000 km trip in May of this year. The plan is to camp or wild-camp 100%, cook as many meals as he can along the way and to make the trip within the time frame allowed which means on average most days will need to be up on 700km covered with no rest days at all.
To make this trip more interesting the plan is also to raise €6000 for charity. 100% of the proceeds will go evenly to 3 charities and they are Féileacáin, Cuan Centre, and SOSAD, Cavan. Jonny says he knows the great work that the Cuan Centre provides following his wife Paula being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2022 and since has been given the all clear.
In June 2016 his son Tadhg was unfortunately stillborn and Féileacáin stepped in and gave him and his wife a memory box along with a cuddle cot. He says Féileacáin has always been an avenue to talk to and avail of support.
When Tadhg was buried, he says he refers to his grave as Tadhg's Garden. Since 2016 he has been joined by a few friends who have had a tragic ending to their short lives by suicide and he knows the great work that SOSAD in Cavan does.
The go-fund me page set up is called Cavan to Nordkapp 10,000km to the top of Europe.
