Ireland's teddy bear hospital in Co Cavan is in search of new surgeons. Owner and chief bear surgeon at Bear Essentials, Anke Morgenroth operates from a rural setting in Bawnboy.
Ireland’s teddy bear hospital treats bears aged from a few years old up to 103 but is now seeking intern bear surgeons as Anke nears retirement. She has run the hospital alongside her Co Cavan business designing mohair teddy bears for over 20 year
Anke relocated to Bawnboy in 1984 from her home country of Germany and says she was particularly busy during the Covid-19 pandemic because teddys reminded people of lost loved ones.
"A lot of people lost loved ones during the Covid-19 pandemic and had maybe a teddy bear of a brother they had lost. And sometimes a teddy bear is all they have left of a relation. So, people really wanted to hold on to the teddy and get it restored either to pass on to the next generation or themselves," she added.
