A Co Cavan student has claimed a top prize in the Texaco Children's Art Competition. 14-year old Lana Gallagher attends St Aidan's Comprehensive School in Cootehill. Lana won a Special Merit Award for her artwork entitled 'My Sister', which Final Adjudicator, Gary Granville, Professor Emeritus of Education at the National College of Art and Design, said 'demonstrated high levels of skill and imagination'.
No stranger to the competition, Lana won second prize in the 12-13 year age category last year. The Texaco Children's Art Competition is popularly regarded as the longest-running sponsorship in the history of arts sponsoring in Ireland. It has been a platform on which young artists from Cavan and counties throughout Ireland have had their talents recognised and their creativity commended.
