A Co Cavan student has encouraged young people to "have faith" and "believe in themselves." Aoibhe Beatty from Mullahoran was recently crowned 'Local Champion' by the National Youth Council of Ireland (NYCI). Aoibhe who represents counties Cavan and Monaghan has highlighted the importance of the youth council and credits it for "changing her life." Speaking to Northern Sound, the Mullahoran student has encouraged others to get involved in youth organisations such as the NYCI and Foróige. According to Aoible "youth work changes lives" and allows you to meet new people while also growing in confidence.
"Our main slogan this year is 'Youth Work Changes Lives' and I stand with that so much, it has changed my life so much and I've met so many great people through that," explained Aoibhe. "It's all starts with having confidence in yourself and telling yourself that you believe in yourself. It's important to believe in yourself and know that you can do anything you put your mind to. I love meeting our local representatives and sharing some of the amazing experiences I’ve had with Gaisce and Foróige. There’s so much important work happening in our area to support young people, and I want to ensure our local representatives carry that message to the national level, so that youth work in our area and beyond gets its fair share come budget time.”
