Cavan SPCA remind people that Halloween is a frightening time for all animals, not just household pets. Tina Boyle from the local branch advises all owners to check on their animals throughout the day and night this Halloween.
She said on this day every year, fireworks and bangers start going off early, not just the night-time. Tina said the SPCA are already busy taking calls from pet owners whose animals have gone missing because they panicked and ran away from the noise. If this happens to your pet, Tina says people's first port of call should be the SPCA facebook page. The page accepts posts and photographs of missing pets and the SPCA will work to reunite animals with their owners.
"What we say top anyone is either keep them indoors or in an area you're sure they can't get out of while the fireworks are going on," Tina told Northern Sound, "And, that's all day today and for the next several days, it's not just night-time. The bangers can be going off during daylight, too. Even if you're at work you need to know the animal os secured and it's not just cats and dogs; livestock, sheep, cattle, horses - they can all be frightened in fields near-hand, you know?"
