Marc McSharry is set to re-join the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party after Deputy Barry Cowen and Cavan Senator, Diarmuid Wilson, called for his return. The Sligo/Leitrim TD resigned the Fianna Fáil whip last year following the Katherine Zappone controversy that erupted around Foreign Minister Simon Coveney.
Meanwhile, Senator Wilson told Northern Sound that Mr McSharry has always been a "full and active" member of Fianna Fail despite his resignation of the Whip. He pointed out that procedures to reinstate the TD will begin next week and he remains confident of a positive outcome.
Senator Wilson also highlighted how Mr McSharry is passionate about his political role, always speaks his mind and has never engaged in anything but constructive criticism. "As outlined by the Taoiseach last night, the proposal has to be made by the party whip.
"The Taoiseach through the parliamentary party chair, Deputy Brendan Smith, proposed that the Whip put it on the agenda for next week's meeting. And, that motion will be unanimously accepted," he added,
