A Cavan Senator is calling for details as to when the drug Duodopa will be available for Parkinson’s patients.
Senator Joe O’Reilly raised the issue in the Seanad today stating that there are 100 patients that would achieve a better quality of life through use of the drug and it would be transformative for them.
He also asked to be provided with a brief on Deep Brain Stimulation surgery, which he says would positively impact around 500 Parkinson’s patients.
He was told that the National Centre of Pharma Economics has made a positive recommendation in relation to the drug and they are now awaiting decision from the HSE Executive Management Team.
