A Cavan School has run a gender equality initiative in recent days to highlight the plight of women in society.
Breifne College Cavan have been running a campaign called 'Girls go first project' to incorporate positive discrimination to girls in the Cavan School.
Lucy Jordan, a sixth year student in the school told the Joe Finnegan Show all about the programme that comes to an end today.
The aim of the programme was to raise awareness of subtle sexism in society which allowed girls in the school to get out of class five minutes earlier than boys and they could skip boys in queues for water fountains and in the canteen. She said that she would like to see this initiative be rolled out across schools across the country. Lucy says the programme is really to get people thinking and cause a conversation.
