A Cavan school says it is "pleased with the reaction to the school's uniform policy" after a pupil contacted Northern Sound News to say they are "left shivering cold" as a result of changes to uniform rules.
A pupil from Breifne College emailed Northern Sound to say the rule changes are "ridiculous".
A pupil from the school recently contacted the newsroom regarding a change to uniform rules which have led to the banning of non-uniform jackets and coats on school grounds.
The pupil labelled the rule change "ridiculous" and claimed that there were no issues regarding non-school clothing items apart from "the odd student".
The rule change means pupils have to wear a school branded fleece that costs €20 or a €30 Regatta softshell jacket.
The pupil in question said they are "left shivering cold" while waiting for the bus as a result.
The email alleges that the school told pupils to "layer up underneath", but the pupil said this is not possible because they would then have several layers on while they are "blasted with heat" from the radiators in the school.
The pupil finished the email by saying it "doesn't help when teachers walk around with their large, warn jackets", and added that this makes pupils "feel like they are lower than the teachers".
In a statement to Northern Sound News, Breifne College say the school has been very pleased with the reaction to the enhanced uniform policy.
The school says this "gives flexibility and choice to students and families".
The statement added that "the choice of uniform options was informed by student consultation and feedback from pupils, and to date the school has received no complaints".
