It's going to be a tough winter for the local hospitality sector and it's going to be hit severely.
That's according to Cavan restauranteur Fergus Murphy of Murph's Bistro, Derrygarra Inn who told Northern Sound today that his latest electricity bill was €11,000.
He explained it's usually around €4,000 at this time of the year and €6,000 during the winter months.
Mr Murphy also pointed out that the cost of food and ingredients has also increased and gas price has doubled.
He added that while he has increased his cover charge at the restaurant, there is only so far he can go, otherwise Murph's will loose its customer base.
"It is going to be tough for a lot of people in the hospitality sector," Mr Murphy continued.
"I think what happened with Covid-19 will be a breeze compared to what is coming down the line.
"Pubs, restaurants, cafes and takeaways, especially, will be hit."
