Residents in Cavan have been urged to be mindful of how they are disposing of their domestic waste, particularly rag and wipes.
At a recent Cavan-Belturbet MD meeting, Councillor Peter McVitty raised reports of problems with the pumping station close to the Leisure Centre in Cavan Town.
He asked what could be done and the Senior Engineer, Paul Mulligan, said there are "serious issues" with greasy rags and wipes which is causing problems with the pumps.
Mr Mulligan said he has even come across footballs in sewage systems, and that this causes the pumps to "burn out".
He added that there is a "serious cost" to amending this on-going problem.
Peter McVitty told Shannonside Northern Sound that people need to use "common sense" and dispose of their waste responsibly:
