Susuana Komolafe from Cavan was among 31 migrants graduating from political and leadership programmes, at a ceremony run by the Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI). The courses are aimed at increasing migrant representation in politics and encouraging them to use their voice to enact change.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Susuana highlighted how she has been involved in community work in Cavan for a number of years. She says her focus now is on the political arena. Susuana added how important it is to be able to lobby, and engage with elected representatives.
"Being a migrant, even though I have been living in Ireland for quite a while now, there is still that identity as a migrant. Even though I can say I am fully Irish in the sense of it. I am comfortable with my environment and I understand the environment.
"And, this course was an opportunity for me to participate on the Immigrant Council of Ireland," she said.
