A residents meeting is planned for this evening over the proposed development of battery energy storage facilities in Cavan.
The event takes place at 8pm at the Killygarry Community Centre and is being organised by concerned residents. The proposed development is located at two sites in Cavan, both of which are currently under appeal to An Bord Pleanala.
Accelerate Renewables Ltd was granted planning permission for a 10-year permission to build an energy storage facility at Shankill Lower, Clonervy and one at Pottle, Ballinagh also. The operational lifetime of the proposed development is 35 years.
Local resident Eleanor Davis says tonight's meeting is about awareness and information and demanding safety for the local community. She says the local residents were shocked to learn that the local authority had given the green light for the facility.
