A Cavan primary school has brought back an initiative that'll see parents and children walk to school once a week.
St Joseph's in Kingscourt came up with WOW, or Walk on Wednesdays, a number of years ago as part of their efforts to earn a Green Flag and it was such a success that they kept it on.
It encourages pupils and their families to park the cars and make at least part of the journey on foot once a week.
Valerie Norton is the deputy principal at the school, she says it's just one of the things the children do for the environment.
"There's great enthusiasm and great interest. We have a Green Schools committee that we set up every year and there's always great interest. A lot of children are dying to be part of it and we're also supporting Cavan County Councils 'No Idling' Campaign, so that's encouraging drivers to turn off their car engines when they're not moving, so one such time as when they're outside the school gates waiting on their children."
