A Cavan photographer has been selected to feature in a national astrophotography exhibition.
Over 170 entries were shortlisted for the inaugural "Reach for the Stars" competition by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and Virginia's Dara Callinan has been selected as one of the top 20 rated images.
Dara's "Heart and Soul nebulae" was captured in his back garden in Virginia.
Nebulae are giant clouds of dust and gas in space and these two nebulae are located in the Cassiopeia constellation, at a distance of about 7,500 light-years away from Earth.
The images are now part of an exhibition that will initially run online on the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies' website and an outdoor exhibit is planned for the coming weeks.
