A Cavan nursing home provider says visiting can be facilitated over Christmas.
Russell Mellett of Sheelin Nursing Home says the current restrictions are very difficult for everyone involved with nursing homes.
However, he insists staff will ensure there is Christmas cheer in the homes if visits can't be permitted.
The Ballyjamesduff LEA recently had the highest incidence rate of covid-19 in the country but Russell says the Mountnugent home was able to keep covid-19 out.
Visiting was allowed over the summer months, and Russell told the Joe Finnegan Show that he can see no reason why there can't be some type of visiting over Christmas if progress in tackling covid-19 continues:
