The Cavan NCT centre had the highest percentage of fails nationally last year according to the Irish Independent.
61% of vehicles failed in the Cavan Centre accounting for 1,800 cars.
Monaghan also fared poorly with 56% of cars failing, the fourth highest in the country. Cavan also had the highest percentage of vehicles in the country with so called 'dangerous defects' at 12%. The most common reason for failing the test were suspension and steering defects at 15%, lighting and electrical faults at 14.2% and the side slip test at 12.3%.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Dave Humphreys from completecar.ie says the high fail rate locally is down to a number of factors.
