People across the region have been urged to check an online register ahead of next year’s local elections to ensure they are registered to vote. The process has been simplified and is available for those registering to vote for the first time and to those who may have changed address since the last election.
Every resident aged 18 or over regardless of nationality, is entitled to vote in next year’s local elections. Monaghan County Council are set to run a local campaign across radio and print next week to highlight the need to check if you are registered to vote.
In a question raised at this months meeting of Monaghan County Council by Cllr Cathy Bennet on what plans were in place to make sure the register was up to date. Local authority staff confirmed that no one can be added to the Register or update their details without completing a form or applying online. Adding that therefore the main focus is to raise public awareness about this shift, and also encourage elected representatives to promote it.
