Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly brought a Bill to cabinet this week that will ban the sale of e-cigarettes to those under the age of 18.
Cavan Monaghan Fianna Fail TD, Deputy Brendan Smith, says the Bill also provides for restrictions on the type of retailers that can sell vaping products as well as curbs on the advertising of vapes near schools, on public transport, and at other settings frequented by children and young adults.
He says that research has found, that children who vape, are five times more likely to go on and start smoking.
Meanwhile, according to the World Health Organisation, there are 16,000 different flavours of vapes - such as bubblegum and gummy bears.
Deputy Smith added that the health and well-being of the nation was at the heart of the new soon to be legislation on the sale of e-cigarettes.
