Thousands of students across the region are struggling to find suitable accommodation as they prepare to return to college.
That's according to Hannah Brennan, Union of Students in Ireland Vice President for the Border, Midlands and Western region.
Speaking on the Wider View this afternoon Hannah said the situation for students was "scary" at the moment.
She highlighted how people are no longer looking for ideal accommodation but choosing instead to sleep on couches or in tents.
The USI vice president warned there will be "even more of a scramble" for places to live when the Leaving Cert results come out next week.
"If you are sleeping on a friend's couch and they decide to have a party there is absolutely nothing you can do about that," continued Hannah.
"You are a guest in their home but it could be detrimental to your studies for the next few days.
"In an ideal world you would want people to have their own room.
"But unfortunately, we realise now, that is not the case."
