Hundreds of Leaving Cert students across the Shannonside Northern Sound region have received their Leaving Cert results today. Guidance Counsellor at St McCartan's College in Monaghan, Gerry Reilly, says there is no need for worry because there are options to suit all results that have been revealed.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Mr Reilly highlighted that students feeling unhappy or disappointed can participate in the appeals process or view their scripts on the 2nd of September. He pointed out that 50% of students will get their first choice on the CAO application while 80% are awarded their first, second or third choice.
Mr Reilly added that college offers will be made available on the 30th of August and 97% of students accept their Round 1 offer. "If you haven't received an offer, it's important to check your statement of record from the CAO to see," he continued.
Maybe you have the points but maybe there was a specific subject requirement like a H4 in Maths and you didn't get that part of it. Maybe a student has an exemption from Irish but you forgot to put in the NUI exemption form - it's still not too late to do that.
"And, if you didn't get an offer because you didn't get enough points, then it's time to start looking at alternative routes.
