Businesses in Cavan and Monaghan are complaining about missing out on €4,000 because of a government admin error. Accountants representing local SMEs have also complained to Deputy Brendan Smith leading him to bring the issue directly to the Minister for Enterprise and the Tánaiste.
The TD explained that under the first Increased Cost of Business scheme SMERs could re-coup 50 per cent of their business rates. ICOB 2 paid 50% of rates as well but the 17 categories in IVCOB 1 were reduced to two. Now, businesses that received ICOB 1 but not ICOB 2 are shocked to learn they're not eligible to apply for the much better Power Up grant.
Yesterday in the Dáil, Brendan Smith told Micheál Martin "A decision was made at administrative level which is totally unfair and it must be changed immediately.
