'Shocking' incidents like Cherry Orchard has an impact on all members of An Garda Síochána.
That's according to James Morrisroe, who is the GRA representative for the Cavan/Monaghan district.
Speaking to Northern Sound, in relation to an incident where a Garda car was rammed by joyriders in Dublin earlier this week - Garda Morrisroe said "no amount of training" could prepare you for something of that nature.
He says morale across the force is at an "all time low" adding that he doesn't know any frontline Garda who hasn't been assaulted in the course of their duty.
As a result, Garda Morrisroe says 'more needs to be done' to protect members and has called for a mandatory prison sentence to be introduced:
