A local TD has called for further funding to reduce waiting lists for children's dental services in Cavan and Monaghan. Deputy Brendan Smith raised the matter with the Health Minister Stephen Donnelly this week.
According to the Cavan-Monaghan TD, in Cavan some children are waiting until they're in secondary school before they get their sixth class appointment. In response, Minister Donnelly pointed out that 128 children in the Cavan-Monaghan constituency were transferred to private care to reduce waiting lists last year.
Deputy Smith said that the current waiting list is unacceptable and children are missing out on critical care. Concluding, Deputy Smith reiterated the need for additional funding and the need for a principal dental surgeon with a special needs role in particular.
