Monaghan and Cavan County Councils are still dealing with the aftermath of storms Isha and Jocelyn as one road remain closed due to fallen trees. Both local authorities reported to Northern Sound they each dealt with over 100 tossed trees in their respective areas since Sunday night.
In Monaghan, just one local road remains closed. The L - 60301 in Knocknagrat will be closed for the next week due to ongoing repairs. It had to be closed after a HGV travelling the tertiary road tried to pass a fallen tree and the verge collapsed. All other roads are open.
In Cavan, staff and fire crew officially dealt with over 100 incidents involving fallen trees. In Cavan Town alone, more than 20 trees had to be dealt with and, each of the 10 stations in the county were busy in the days following the storms. However, a spokesperson for the County Council said "it's worth emphasising that the real number of incidents is likely twice than listed and is certainly well over 100." As fire crew attended the scene of one fallen tree, they came across more on their way and had to clear those first, the spokesperson said. Meanwhile, ESB Networks have told Northern Sound that all those Cavan and Monaghan customers who find themselves still without power should have theirs restored by 5 o'clock this evening.
