The HSE has warned that community transmission of Covid-19 is well above
average in Cavan and Monaghan.
The North East Major Emergency Management Interagency Group has appealed for
people to take action and prevent the spread of the virus.
Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal this week moved to Level 4 restrictions after a
worrying increase in the number of cases in the counties.
The HSE has issued testing figures for the Northern Sound region.
1,699 people were tested in the two counties between Monday and Thursday of
this week, with a positivity rate of 18 per cent in Cavan and 15 per cent in
Monaghan.
This compares with a national average of 6.5 per cent, with the HSE saying
community transmission of Covid-19 is much higher locally.
The North East Major Emergency Management Interagency Group, made up of the
HSE, local Councils and Gardaí, has issued an urgent appeal to the people of
Cavan and Monaghan to stop the spread of Covid-19.
It's asked people to keep their number of contacts to an absolute minimum,
keep a two metre distance from anyone that you do not live with, wear a face
covering and wear it correctly, wash your hands and contact your GP if you
have any Covid symptoms or feel unwell.
