Cavan and Monaghan are among the counties with the highest Covid-reated deaths. According to research carried out by the Irish Independent, Cavan, Monaghan, Mayo, Louth, Roscommon and Kildare had the highest rate of deaths per 100,000 population.
Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of the beginning of the pandemic in Ireland as the first Covid death was reported here on March 11, 2020. It involved a woman from the east of the country with an underlying illness who contracted the virus.
Since then, 9,358 deaths have been attributed to Covid here. According to the Independent, a breakdown of deaths by location during the pandemic shows 2,729, or 60 per cent, were linked to Covid outbreaks in nursing homes.
