It's important that people become "more aware" of midwifery-led units and the benefits of them, according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation (INMO).
Tony Fitzpatrick who is the Director of Industrial Relations with the INMO, says it is "unfortunate" that only two midwifery-led units across the country remain in Cavan and Drogheda.
He added that the service based at Cavan Hospital is "second to none", despite coming under threat of permanent closure in recent years.
Mr Fitzpatrick believes it's vital that women are made aware of the midwifery-led services at Cavan Hospital and has called for more investment to be injected into such units as he claims it offers women "more options" in relation to child birth services.
