Irish bishops have "completely rejected" a proposal to introduce assisted dying in certain circumstances.
It follows the findings of a special Oireachtas committee, which issued recommendations to government.
The committee is calling for assisted-dying to be allowed when terminally ill people have only six months to live in most cases - or 12 months where they are suffering from a neuro-degenerative condition.
Bishops have issued a pastoral letter about the findings, which was read by Fr Kevin Fay in Cavan cathedral today.
