Matthew McGahern has gone from strength to strength since completing the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Cavan's Matthew McGahern has been nominated for the coveted 'Apprentice of the Year' award. The Mullahoran native is a Business Development Executive with a new role at Willis Towers Watson and has thrived in the insurance industry ever since joining the 'Earn & Learn' programme. With much debate recently over apprenticeships and how the stigma over 'Earn & Learn' options are fading with many apprentices now on higher salaries than college graduates, Matthew McGahern has encouraged people of all ages to apply for the 2024 Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Speaking to Northern Sound, the former St Pat's student said he joined the apprentice programme after he was drawn to the ‘Earn & Earn’ structure of the programme which enabled him to achieve a degree with insurance qualifications. According to Matthew, the Insurance Practitioner Apprenticeship is a three-year programme, which enables apprentices to earn a full-time salary, whilst studying remotely for a BA Honours Degree in Insurance Practice. The programme is also calling all prospective apprentices to apply for the next cycle, kickstarting September 2024.

Matthew who has been nominated for the coveted ‘Apprentice of the Year’ award and has thrived in the industry ever since he joined the programme. "Since I was a young lad I always enjoyed practical work and if you asked me if I'd rather work or go to school I would have always said work. The structure of work is very positive for me and it makes me more productive."
