A Cavan man has expressed concern over the current sanctions in place for those who carry out attacks against the elderly.
Tom believes a 'slap on the wrist' culture is becoming more prominent across the Irish legal system.
Judges will now have the power to set minimum sentences in murder cases under new proposals by Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee.
However, the Cavan man believes more action needs to be taken by the Justice Minister to protect the elderly from violent attacks.
He says, perpetrators of this kind need harsher sentences and has called for the return of part-time Gardaí across rural areas.
