It's alleged that he, on the 23rd September of this year at Dingle Garda Station, refused to comply with a requirement to permit a designated doctor to take a specimen of blood, or provide a urine sample.

The offences are under the Road Traffic Act.

In Tralee District Court, Judge David Waters asked Mr Curran if he would be willing to sign a bail bond, which would be secured with payment; these are generally in the region of €200, with only a part to be paid up front.

Mr Curran replied, "It depends on how much it is... a Cavan man doesn't like paying."

Judge Waters remanded Mr Curran in custody to give him some more time to decide if he'd prefer to take up the option of bail.

The court later heard the defendant was willing to return and sign the bond.
