President Michael D Higgins was "well within his right" to share his comments on neutrality. That's according to Liam Van Der Spek who is a Labour representative from Co Cavan.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, Liam stated that the current President is "limited constitutionally" on what he can do, but not on what he can say.
The role of the presidency has evolved over the last 30 years, according to the Cavan native. In his opinion, he believes that "most people" would not want the President of Ireland to stay quiet on such pressing matters.
"I think he was well within his right to speak his option, like he has done in the past on various issues," explained Liam.
