A Cavan local has described the staff working in Cavan General Hospital as 'angels'.
Tom's wife was admitted to Cavan General last Christmas when she was seriously ill. She ultimately had to spend her birthday in hospital which Tom says left her feeling down and out. However, the nurses surprised her with cake and a celebration of her birthday, boosting her mood.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, Tom says the nurses at Cavan General deserve every bit of praise they get
"It gave us such a lift and what got me most of all was that these nurses who were ran off their feet, they go around the ward and you'd think they're on roller-skates, never stopping for a minute, but yet, and this is a surprising fact in my experience, they always had time to stop at every bed and have a chat with the patients with a smile on their face. Nothing was ever too much, they were absolutely fantastic. What I will say is that we have new Government coming in and I think one of the things that must be a priority for this Government: look after the nurses. Do your best to retain them".
