The captain of the Cavan women's football team says team mates have approached her crying over high travel expenses. Neasa Byrd's comments come as both football and camogie players say they'll continue the season "under protest."
They're unhappy with a number of issues such as travel money not being reimbursed as well as poor access to pitches and physio staff. Neasa's team has already pulled out of a fixture this year in an ongoing travel expenses row with the county board.
"As a captain, I've had players confiding in me about expenses and the financial burden that playing county football has on them," she explained. "Girls are crying, saying that they actually can't financially afford to play county football. This should not be a distraction nor a reason for girls to step aside from playing the sport that they love."
