A Labour party member in Cavan says he doesn't see a realistic chance for the party to be part of the next Government.
Attention has turned to the formation of the 34th Dáil, with the most likely make-up being a Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael coalition with Independents. However, discussion has been rife surrounding a possible coalition with Labour and the Social Democrats too. Liam van der Spek is a Labour party member in Cavan who ran in the most recent local elections.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show this morning, he says he's disappointed that there's no realistic chance for Labour to enter Government.
"I think we have fantastic policies that have improved the country when we have been in Government. I'm disappointed that there isn't an opportunity, realistically, for Labour to be in Government this time. We're going to see the same, a more right-wing Government, with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael plus Independents of a more conservative nature. We're not going to see the kind of change we need on housing for young people or any kind of social progress".
