The phased return of day services for the Irish Wheelchair Association in Cavan could come as early as next month. The service closed its doors back in April and changed to an "outreach only model" following severe staff shortages.
Minister of State at the Department of Children, Equality, Disability , Integration, and Youth, Anne Rabbitte, provided an update on the service last week. The Minister confirmed that efforts to fill vacant posts are underway with two of an initial four successful candidates accepting their positions.
Their proposed start date is July 1st, which, according to the Minister, will facilitate a graduated return to on-site day services with the number of days increasing with additional recruitment. The use of agency staff as a short-term measure is also being explored.
