A civic reception was recently held in Co Cavan for groups across the world who were honoured for promoting all things Cavan globally. The event which was held in Cavan on Friday was in conjunction with the overall Cavan Calling event which took place over the weekend.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Conor Harrington who is a member of the Cavan Calling committee said the civic reception was to honour the Cavan societies and twinning organisations across the world and their work on behalf of the global Cavan family.
Conor believes celebrating and acknowledging international links will only benefit the county in years to come, particularly in terms of business and tourism.
He added it was great to get everyone together and to acknowledge the great work that people are doing across the globe to promote the Breffni County.
"The whole point of Cavan Calling is to recognise the Cavan diaspora down through history and the impact people from Cavan has made around the world," explained Conor.
"We're very conscious that there's Cavan associations in London, New York, Toronto, Philadelphia, so we wanted to celebrate those people and what they've done for the Cavan diaspora.
"Say the New York society, there's generations of Cavan people who have went over to New York and that society has played a massive role in welcoming them in, connecting them with other Cavan people and helping people find employment. That's been a hugely important role and we wanted to hold a civic reception to honour the work that is not only being done today but the work that has been done for generations really."
