Management at Cavan General Hospital have issued a notice to say the emergency department is experiencing "significantly high levels of activity" today. The latest figures from the INMO trolley watch show there are currently 15 people waiting on trolleys at Cavan General today so far.
A statement from the hospital's General Manager to all GPs and media outlets in Cavan and Monaghan says "There are high numbers of patient presentations to the Emergency Department" and describes the situation as "in escalation". Patients are being advised of significant delays and limited bed capacity at present and are being asked to seek alternatives to ED referrals where available.
The statement goes on to say that Cavan General is still providing emergency care if it is required. In all, 383 people are awaiting beds in hospitals across the country today.
