Gardaí in Cavan are appealing to homeowners to ensure their properties are locked up securely.
It comes following a number of burglaries in the county this month. The first incident under investigation is the theft of a large sum of cash from Farnadolly Farm on the 4th of June. A cash box was found broken into with a significant amount of cash missing. Gardaí want to hear from anyone who noticed any suspicious person or vehicle in the area on that date. Separately, Gardaí in Killeshandra are appealing for information on a burglary in the Portaliff area on the 19th of June between 1pm and 2pm. A male was disturbed leaving a property by the homeowner where it was then discovered a sum of cash was stolen. The man fled on foot but may possibly have been picked up by a small silver vehicle. Lastly. Gardaí are also investigating a burglary that occurred between the hours of 2pm on the 24th of June and 1pm on the 25th of June in Billis. The house was vacant at the time and while nothing was taken, damage was caused to the property as entry was attempted to be gained.
Garda Lisa Stephens of Bailiborough Garda Station has this advice for homeowners.
"If you are leaving your property, ensure all windows and doors are closed securely. If you're away for a prolonged number of days, have someone pop in and check your property or you may also call to your local Garda station before you leave and advise that the property will be vacant. Gardaí will be only too happy to patrol the area and ensure your house remains safe"
