The Cavan Roads Policing Unit detected a van travelling at a speed of 124 kilometres an hour in a 80 km zone on the N55 earlier today.
The report comes as National Slow Down Day got underway on Irish roads at 7am this morning.
Motorists across the region are being urged to reduce their speed and save lives.
Elsewhere, a motorist was detected doing 132 kilometres an hour in a 100 km zone on the N4 in Co Westmeath.
