A Cavan father has highlighted how the lack of school transport for his autistic son has negatively impacted the child's life.
Francis Kilbride from Bawnboy told the Joe finnegan Show this morning that his son Jamie was due to start secondary school last Friday.
But despite applying for his seat on the school bus last March, none was forthcoming, and as a direct result, Jamie cannot start in first year.
Mr Kilbride says that structure is an important aspect of his son's life and the lack of a seat on the school bus is having a negative impact on him.
Mr Kilbride added that Jamie cannot understand why he can't go to school and is becoming frustrated as a result.
"He is suffering, you can see a change in his attitude," Mr Kilbride continued.
"Jamie is more anxious; he is more unsettled.
"You can see in the mornings when everyone else is going to school that the behaviour is changing.
"And, that is because the routine and structure is not there any more."
