ICMSA deputy president Lorcan McCabe retired from his role recently. The Cavan native has served for a number of years and was well-known and highly regarded by those involved in the organisation.
Mr McCabe says he stepped down because of how difficult it was becoming for him to run his farm due to the increasing pressures and demands of being at the helm of the farming organisation.
He pointed out that there needs to be more long term planning by Government when it comes to farming in this country. Mr McCabe also added that the current effort to reduce the national herd is going to lead to food shortages.
"There is no long term planning - the Government just jumps on the bandwagon, that's the way I would put it. There should a long term look at things.
"Even now different parts of the Government are looking at reducing numbers and while they say there not, with all the restrictions coming in, they are," he said.
