That was the comments made by Cavan man Sean Smith following a settlement at the High Court into his son's death John who passed away in 2019.
John was 22 years old when he died at Beaumont Hospital of multi-system organ failure, acute kidney injury, days after he was transferred to Dublin from Cavan General Hospital.
When John was eight months old John was diagnosed with diplegic cerebral palsy. But his farther says John thrived in spite of his disability and overcame serious health difficulties in his life.
He completed mainstream school at Breifne College, graduated from Cavan Institute and lived an relatively independent lifestyle right up until his death.
He loved Liverpool FC and being surrounded by his family and friends.
Cavan General Hospital issued the family with an apology and the hospital also have said that they have implemented recommendations to ensure a similar situation doesn't occur ever again.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show earlier Sean said he believes his son would be still alive today if he had been diagnosed and treated sooner.
